Frequently Asked Questions

Meeting point: the Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park, Charleston, South Carolina.

Undiscovered Charleston

Where does the tour meet?

Tours begin at the Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park, located in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. This is a central, easy-to-find meeting point along the Cooper River waterfront. Exact arrival instructions are included in your confirmation email after booking.

How long is the tour?

The experience lasts approximately four hours. This includes a guided walk through Charleston’s historic French Quarter followed by a private cooking demonstration and a seated, multi-course lunch with wine pairings.

What’s included in the tour?

Your experience includes:

  • A guided culinary and history walk through Charleston’s French Quarter
  • A private cooking demonstration led by Chef Forrest Parker
  • A three-course lunch inspired by Charleston and the Lowcountry
  • Curated wine pairings served with the meal
  • Stories and context not found on typical walking tours

Group size is strictly limited to 11 guests to keep the experience intimate.

What’s not included?

Gratuities are not included and are always at your discretion. (A 20% gratuity is customary in the hospitality and tourism industry.) Additional beverages outside of the curated pairings are not included unless otherwise specified.

Is this tour suitable for all ages?

This tour is designed primarily for adults. While older teens with an interest in food and history may enjoy the experience, wine is served as part of the meal, and the pace and content are tailored to an adult audience.

What happens if it rains?

Tours run rain or shine. Light rain does not affect the experience, and Charleston weather is part of the city’s character. In the event of severe weather that makes the tour unsafe, guests will be contacted directly regarding rescheduling or next steps.

Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes. We are happy to accommodate most dietary restrictions with advance notice. Please note any allergies or dietary needs at the time of booking so we can plan accordingly. Booking directly allows us to receive these details clearly and ensure the best possible experience.

How physically demanding is the walking portion?

The walking portion is leisurely and unhurried, covering a relatively short distance through mostly flat terrain. There are regular stops along the way. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Should I book directly or through a third-party site?

Booking directly through Undiscovered Charleston ensures the best availability, preferred seating, direct communication with Chef Forrest, and the most up-to-date tour details. Third-party booking platforms may apply additional fees or restrictions outside our control.

What is your cancellation policy?

All direct bookings are non-refundable. We strongly recommend purchasing trip insurance at checkout for added flexibility. Guests booking through third-party platforms such as TripAdvisor are subject to their individual terms and conditions.

How far in advance should I book?

Tours often sell out due to the limited group size. We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak travel seasons and festival weekends.
