Wellness in Charleston’s Hospitality Industry

mental health

Just a brief note today. Put your team first! This was ingrained in me during my tenure at Gaylord Opryland. By putting our teams first, it allows them the tools they need and frees them up to more fully engage with guests. This is a core value to me, and to how I lead my team to this day.

That said, the hospitality industry has always seemed a vector for non traditional, sometimes even transient types. It isn’t uncommon for many to have lapsed in health care coverage, and to be unaware of resources available.

I wanted to reach out to share one of those resources with my industry peers: Family Services, Inc. Family Services is based in Dorchester County, but provides services all over the tri-county area, within the state of SC and even within the U.S. It’s my understanding that most of these are confidential, free and available to the public. Resources range from programs in home ownership, financial education and coaching, behavioral health services (dependency?) and veteran services. Other classes focus on making ends meet, financial wellness, introduction to home ownership, bankruptcy counselling and much more available in person or by online training.

Given recent events, we owe it to ourselves and our community to look out for one another, and to share these resources when we find them. Please share this with your teams- the difference you make could literally save lives.

Family Services, Inc. can also be reached by phone at 843.735.7802
